A precious marriage: sake and wasabi

Sake

In Japan, in olden times, it was said that drinking sake was the best way to avoid colds and that it acted as a preventive treatment – as the word itself suggested, meaning “to prevent” before being named after its properties. Those qualities also apply to cosmetics. Indeed, for beautiful skin, geishas used to make a lotion with the remnants of their clients’ sake. Sake helps blood circulation and clears the complexion. Preventing dryness, it leaves the skin hydrated and bright. Moreover, the kojic acid that Japanese sake contains – together with hundreds of other amino acids, vitamins and minerals - acts on melanin, and attenuates marks and beauty spots.

Furthermore, by activating cellular metabolism and retarding aging, sake, once called “youth water”, prevents skin alteration. Used as a lotion, sake dregs have a clearing and moisturising effect and hydrate the skin. Encouraging collagen secretion, it allows the skin to restore its elasticity.

Scientific studies have confirmed these properties, but long before, in ancient Japan, sake was already considered as a panacea and its use was passed down from generation to generation.

The sake used in Mon Soin du Visage skincare range has an inimitable taste, the genuine taste of sake from ancient times. It is made according to a fundamental principle: “Without abundant nature, there is no true sake”.

In its long history, the brewery has inherited highly specialized techniques of sake brewing, and the great virtue of appreciation for Nature. As one of its beneficiaries, the brewery believes in preserving the local environment, as farm villages succumb to urbanisation – in recent days, even the fireflies, symbol of a beautiful and abundant nature, have been disappearing. The brewery strives constantly to preserve an environment where fireflies may exist peacefully and continue to provide Japanese people with happy thoughts.

Made of rice, water and malt, Sake is a simple liquor, thus its taste largely depends on the skills of the master brewer. Here, every effort is made to best bring out the flavours of organic rice, patiently grown in the clearest water. With its strong yet delicate taste, the sake that was chosen for our products embodies the brewers’ passion for nature, and sense of responsibility towards the environment.

An environment that the brewery preserves by filtering its waste water before discharging it. The water quality provides a biotope that encourages a natural habitat full of wildlife and is essential to sake brewing. The union of the purest water and the respect of traditional brewing gives Mon Soin du Visage sake a unique and refined taste, reflecting Japanese culture and soul.

Wasabi

This plant - a medicinal herb that is often served with sushi and fish dishes – was already used 1,300 years ago in Japan. Ancient documents testify to its property as a natural antidote and its antiseptic virtues have been confirmed through scientific studies.

Research has also revealed wasabi’s regenerative effect. The sulfinyl contained in its roots and stem helps circulation, and can be used as an anti-oxidant and an antidote. It was recently discovered that in the human body, this substance reduces the development of free radicals that are responsible for aging, which is why it is recognised as an anti-aging substance.

Our patented alliance of sake and wasabi enhances these virtues and gives Mon Soin du Visage skincare line natural preservative properties.
